Youth Voices Center To Empower 120 Students At NRHS
Founder and Executive Director Michael Arterberry inspires teens to transform their futures through workshops

New Rochelle – For the next year, Founder and Executive Director of Youth Voices Center, Inc.(YVC) Michael Arterberry will facilitate Power of Peace workshops at the New Rochelle High School through the generous support of the Westchester Community Foundation, transforming the lives of 120 students.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with the Westchester Community Foundation, an amazing organization whose mission closely resembles ours, namely “improving lives.” We are also so excited that students in New Rochelle will receive the benefit of this partnership,” Arterberry shares with Black Westchester.
Working with the administration and staff of the New Rochelle High School, YVC hopes to develop young people into positive, contributing members of society. At YVC, we have the opportunity to combat the negative attitudes and beliefs that prevent high school students from becoming productive member of their communities and society, by providing workshops designed to address the challenges that students currently face inside and outside of the classroom. Through the Power of Peace workshop, a two-day, interactive workshop, students will actively participate in a variety of experiential activities promoting leadership, self-determination, self-esteem, decision making and the effects of risky behavior, self-discipline, diversity, teamwork and collaboration.
Arterberry, a social worker and counselor for more than 25 years, created Youth Voices Center, Inc., a non-profit dedicated to improving the quality of life of young people through youth development. Providing a safe and supportive environment, Youth Voices Center, Inc., encourages youth to become active, productive members of their families, schools and communities. The Power of Peace program, an experiential workshop that strives to allow young people use of their voice in expressing personal concerns, fears and dreams, has proven successful in multiple school districts throughout Westchester including New Rochelle, Port Chester and Greenburgh.
The workshops are expressly designed to help young people understand life, responsibilities, and challenges, and to provide them with the necessary tools to succeed, take action, and create positive impact. Michael Arterberry has been awarded the 2010 USA Network’s Characters Unite Award for exceptional commitment to combating prejudice and discrimination while increasing tolerance and acceptance within the community. He is also the recipient of the 2014 100 Men of Color Award for leadership in education, government, mentorship, entrepreneurial success, and community service.
